Facilities Worker -Part Time
This position provides a flexible schedule Monday-Friday 7:30am-6:00pm; 29 hours a week.
Salary: 19.57-21.80
This position will remain open until filled with preference give to applications received by 4:30 p.m. on May 2, 2025
Primary Objective of Position
The Facilities Worker is primarily responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of bus shelters. The position will also assist with other maintenance, cleaning, renovation and repair of Metro Bus property and facilities.
Essential Functions of the Position

- Responsible for bus shelter cleaning, repairs and maintenance
- Responsible for cleanliness and general maintenance of all Metro Bus shelters
- General cleaning of shelter areas including interior and exterior walls, floor/ground, windows, removing graffiti and emptying trash
- General maintenance of the exterior areas including weed control and removal
- Updates Metro Bus communication materials posted throughout the shelter locations
- Place and remove temporary bus stop signs along Metro Bus routes
- Snow removal from inside shelters and walkways around shelters
- Assist with general interior and exterior maintenance, renovation and repair of Metro Bus facilities
- Assists with operation of industrial sized cleaning equipment such as steam cleaners, pressure washers, carpet extractors, floor buffers, high lights, scissor lifts, forklifts and skid loader. Assists with monitoring equipment function and safe operating condition
- Assists with completion of scheduled facility maintenance checks and procedures including routine maintenance of car wash system.
- May assist with general renovations to include, but not limited to, welding; wall construction; painting; installation of doors, windows, ceilings, sheet rock, trip and brick; landscaping
- Assist with light mechanical trouble-shooting and repair
- Communicates courteously and professionally and maintains respectful working relationships with coworkers and customers in carrying out job functions
- Performs all job duties in compliance with safety guidelines and with an ongoing awareness of safety practices
- Knows and follows safety rules and guidelines as well as sound work and safety practices in order to accomplish the job objectives and avoid injury or loss
- Wears proper protective equipment when policy requires or conditions indicate a need exists and utilizes proper body mechanics and ergonomics while performing work
- When potentially unsafe conditions are observed, makes efforts to avoid or correct them if they are controllable and draws them to the attention of the responsible supervisor or safety representative in a timely manner
- Performs other duties and activities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
The job requires a high school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience performing janitorial and/or industrial cleaning duties or cleaning, maintaining vehicles, equipment and/or property, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required include:
- Knowledge of principles of commercial cleaning and housekeeping
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working and public relationships
- Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with co-workers and the general public
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends
- Interpersonal skills sufficient to exchange and or convey information, receive work direction, and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees, committees and groups; and to diffuse situations/conversations that have escalated beyond normal limits

Physical Demands and Working Environment
- This position is predominately in a maintenance shop requiring extended periods of walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling and reaching. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and push/pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
- Moderate exposure to temperature extremes, noise, physical and/or chemical hazards
- Utilizes personal computers, phone and other office equipment on an occasional basis
- May require some travel outside of the maintenance shop. Will primarily utilize a Metro Bus vehicle for travel
